New in Version 6.09 (6/8/2005) - Replaced the existing 3D viewer with a new one that should work better across all systems. It also displays higher resolution terrains, displays all of the data that is displayed in the main Global Mapper view, and can export to additional formats like PNG, JPG, and TIFF. (Registered Version Only)
- Added support for exporting loaded data to PNG format files.
(Registered Version Only)
- Added support for loading Lowrance USR format files.
- Added support for exporting gridded elevation data to the new, highly compressed, Global Mapper Grid format. (Registered Version Only)
- Made holding down the middle mouse button and dragging the mouse when the zoom tool is active drag the map just like the Grab-and-Drag tool does.
- Add the ability to modify view sheds after they have been calculated. To do so, simply open the Overlay Control Center, right click on the view shed layer that you want to modify, then select the "Edit View Shed Parameters and Recalculate" option. (Registered Version Only)
- On the image rectification dialog, made the selected control point be displayed with a yellow X rather than a red X.
- On the image rectification dialog, added an option (enabled by default) to display the labels for ground controls points on the zoomed and reference map views.
- On the image rectification dialog, if you hold down the CTRL key when left clicking in either the zoomed or reference map view, it will cause the other of those windows to be recentered on the clicked location if enough information is available to determine a recenter location.
- Added button to most of the raster and elevation export option dialogs to allow specifying the sample spacing value in units other than the currently selected global units. (Registered Version Only)
- Added support for tracking GPS devices on serial ports COM10 and higher.
- Added support for decoding Lambert Conformal Conic, Lambert Azimuthal, Albers Conic, and Mercator projections from BSB files to allow for better positioning when not many tie points are specified in the BSB/KAP file.
- Added support for loading additional flavors of ASTER and MODIS imagery directly from HDF files.
- Added support for nautical miles as a linear unit.
- Added support for the NTF France datum with the Pantheon in Paris as the prime meridian.
- Added support for the Interrupted Goode Homolosine projection.
- Made grid line labels always draw at the edge of the screen.
- Added batch convert/reproject option to crop to the selected area features when exporting to raster and elevation formats. (Registered Version Only)
- Added option to display the elevation legend on the right side of the display window (just right click on the elevation legend to choose where it is displayed).
- Added new right click option in the Digitizer tool to allow adding and/or updating the measurement attributes (i.e. LENGTH for lines and PERIMETER/ENCLOSED_AREA for areas) of the selected features.
- When exporting area features to Shapefiles, make the area features be properly clipped to the export bounds rather than just including in its entirety any area that intersects the export bounds. (Registered Version Only)
- When exporting area features to SVG files, make the area features be properly clipped to the export bounds rather than just including in its entirety any area that intersects the export bounds. (Registered Version Only)
- Made point symbols be exported to SVG files. (Registered Version Only)
- Added option to generate tab-delimited CSV files. (Registered Version Only)
- Made curved line segments be correctly read from DXF files.
- Added support for CMYK-encoded JPG files.
- Allowed for the specification of positions in MGRS coordinates when manually entering a location, such as when positioning vertices or panning to a particular location.
- Allowed multiple attribute/value pairs to be deleted at the same time when editing an area, line, or point feature.
- Added button to the Feature Info dialog to allow selected features to be deleted in the Feature Info tool.
- Allowed cropping to more than one area when exporting to a selected area feature from the Export Bounds tab of the raster and elevation export options.
(Registered Version Only)
- Added new parameter (POLYGON_CROP_FILE) to the EXPORT_RASTER and EXPORT_ELEVATION commands in the scripting language to allow raster and elevation exports to be cropped to a polygon. The file specified must consist of a single area feature to which the data will be cropped. (Registered Version Only)
- When specifying custom bounds for collar clipping, if more than one area is selected with the Digitizer Tool, use the combined lat/lon bounds of all selected areas rather than requiring that only one area be selected.
- Added option when exporting GeoTIFF files to specify a DPI value to be stored in the TIFF file for use by other applications. (Registered Version Only)
- Added option to the GPS Setup dialog to allow reading a NMEA stream from a file.
- Fixed reading of some ASRP data sets.
- Fixed reading of some VPF data sets, in particular the Urban Area level VMAP data.
- Allowed for loading of SHP files with invalid or corrupt SHX files.
- Changed the default export extension for Arc ASCII Grid files to .asc from .grd since ArcGIS 9 only recognizes the .asc and .txt extensions. (Registered Version Only)
- Made grid lines be displayed on the reference image when rectifying data if grid line display is enabled in the main map view. (Registered Version Only)
- Made batch conversions to Surfer BLN format files actually do something.
(Registered Version Only)
- Corrected coloring of the first and last vertex for area features. Also, if the start and end vertices for a line or area are the same, the start vertex is drawn green slightly larger than the end vertex in red so that it will be visible.
- Made the start and end vertices for selected line and area features be colored green and red when highlighted with the Feature Info tool. Previously the endpoint colors were only changed when selected with the Digitizer Tool.
- Restored "Script Processing COMPLETED" message to end of script status when running a script from the File->Run Script menu command. This was inadvertently removed in the v6.08 release. (Registered Version Only)
- Sped up loading of workspaces with lots of files by deferring all drawing until the entire workspace is loaded. Previously with some file types the main view would be redrawn after each file was loaded, which really slowed things down.
(Registered Version Only)
- Added display of the complete filename for raster and elevation data in the Metadata dialog displayed from the Overlay Control Center.
- Made transparent colors work with 16-bit per color channel imagery with auto-adjusted contrast.
- If position information for an imagery file is provided via a world file, any rotation factor within the world file is now used rather than ignored. Previously, only TIFF files would use rotation factors from world files. Now they will be used for all imagery types (i.e. JPG, BMP, PNG, etc.).
- Added Yes/No/All prompt for elevation vs. imagery TIFF files when the type cannot be automatically determined. This makes batch converting and loading these types of files much less of a hassle.
- Added sample format tag to 32-bit elevation GeoTIFF files created by Global Mapper so that other software packages can correctly interpret the elevation samples as floating point rather than integer values. (Registered Version Only)
- Added option to create 32-bit floating point BT (Binary Terrain) files when exporting BT files from Global Mapper. (Registered Version Only)
- Made custom datum names stored in PRJ files be recognized.
- Fixed problem setting the collar crop bounds from a selected area if the current view datum did not match the datum of the layer to be cropped.
- Corrected detection of UTM zones in the southern hemisphere when reading projections from TXT metadata files.
- Corrected display of interlaced GIF files.
- Greatly sped up the load of very large USGS DEM format files.
- Improved parsing of MGRS coordinates to allow for coordinate strings with no spaces.
- Corrected half-sample shift of Helava DEM files.
- Use registration points from ERS files if provided.
- Dramatically reduced the memory usage when loading hundreds or thousands of gridded elevation files. (Registered Version Only)
- Fixed handling of negative and NULL values in DTED files.
- Fixed error message when trying to display the 3D view with no data loaded. (Registered Version Only)
- Corrected reading of negative heights from one-byte per sample elevation BIL files.
- Fixed reading of state plane zones from projection files that use FIPSZONE rather than ZONE to specify the zone number.
- Corrected problem that in rare circumstances caused one pixel column or row to be left off of Arc Binary Grid files.
- Added support for correctly positioning Arc ASCII Grid files that use XLLCENTER and YLLCENTER rather than XLLCORNER and YLLCORNER for their positioning info.
- Fixed up to one pixel shift in both the X and Y directions when viewing MrSID imagery. Exporting from MrSID files had no shift.
- Renamed the "Geodetic Datum 1949" to the "NZGD49" datum and improved the accuracy of translating from it to other datums.
- Made ECW files use projection information from Ozi .map files if the projection information cannot be otherwise determined automatically.
- Fixed rare view shed problem that caused less view shed points to be visible than should be. This primarily affected only affected view sheds calculated with very large sample spacings. (Registered Version Only)
- Fixed exporting of State Plane projections to MapInfo MIF/MID format files. (Registered Version Only)
- Improved the quality of viewed ECW files so that you don't have to zoom in quite so far to see high detail.
- Added support for loading ADRG and ASRP data sets in polar zones.
