What's New in Version
6.00 (7/28/2004)
- Added support for true 3D viewing. When
you have elevation data loaded, just press
the 3D button on the toolbar to get a 3D
perspective view of the current view,
including any loaded raster and vector
data. (Registered Version Only)
- Added support for loading TerraServer
satellite imagery and topo maps directly
into Global Mapper. Simply use the new
File menu command to load any portion of
the TerraServer data for viewing. This
data is fully functional and can be
exported to
new files as well.
This
function basically gives you access to the
complete USGS DRG and DOQ
archives as well
as the new high resolution imagery for
select urban areas for
free from within
Global Mapper.
- Improved the batch conversion
functionality to support almost any import
format
to any compatible export format.
You can now also configure the sample
spacing
to use when converting to a raster
or elevation format. The default is still
to use
the sample spacing of the source
data. (Registered Version Only)
- Added support for exporting data to ECW
format files. The maximum size of the
uncompressed data that is to make up the
ECW file is limited to 500 MB.
(Registered
Version Only)
- Added support for loading CADRG and CIB
format data.
- Added support for loading VPF format
data such as the VMAP0 and VMAP1 data sets
available from http://geoengine.nima.mil/
and the Digital Nautical Chart (DNC)
data
sets available from http://www.nga.mil/portal/site/dnc/.
- Added support for loading S-57 marine
chart files such as the NOAA charts
available
for free from http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/mcd/enc/download.htm.
- Added support for loading JPEG2000 (.jp2
and .j2k) format files.
- Added support for loading Erdas GIS
format files.
- Added support for loading ERMapper grid
files (.ers).
- Added support for loading GIF format
files.
- Added support for loading the NOS/GEO
chart format.
- Added support for loading Garmin PCX5
format waypoint (WPT) and track (TRK)
files.
- Added support for loading OziExplorer
format waypoint (WPT) and track (PLT)
files.
- Added support for exporting loaded
vector and elevation data to PLS CADD
format files. (Registered Version Only)
- Added support for loading the ZMap Plus
format grid files used by Geographix
products such as IsoMap.
- Added support for exporting loaded
elevation data to ZMap Plus format grid
files. (Registered Version Only)
- Added support for loading MicroDEM
format 2 DEM files (created with MicroDEM
v8 and above).
- Added support for customizing the grid
line spacing when displaying lat/lon grids
or
grids in the global projection sytem.
- Added support for loading CIRCLE
entities from DXF files.
- Added additional info to the path
profile info display and made the tilt
angle use
the line of sight heights if
available.
- Added option to the custom shader dialog
to specify whether or not to blend colors
between elevation values.
- Added button to the custom shader dialog
to allow initialization of the
elevation/color ranges from those used by
the Global Shader.
- Added option to export gridded elevation
data to Surfer v7 binary grid files
(previously only Surfer v6 binary grid
files could be created). (Registered
Version Only)
- Added COORD_OFFSET and COORD_SCALE
parameters to Simple ASCII export from the
EXPORT_VECTOR script command to allow
custom modification of the coordinates
being exported (this is useful for
changing elevation units, etc). (Registered
Version Only)
- Added support for providing a coordinate
scale and offset when exporting to SVG
format. This allows users to export SVG
files that work with software (like Adobe
Illustrator) that has problems with very
large coordinates, like UTM coordinates. (Registered
Version Only)
- Fixed problems displaying some TIFF
imagery with separate color channels, such
as
the multi-spectral Quickbird imagery
from DigitalGlobe.
- Made coordinates in exported STL files
be stored in counter-clockwise order and
also include a surface normal. (Registered
Version Only)
- Improved accuracy of NAD27 CONUS datum
conversions to well under a meter by using
the NADCON datum conversion method rather
than the multiple-regression equation
(errors up to 2 meters) used in previous
releases.
- Added menu option for loading ground
control points and projection information
from OziExplorer .map files in the image
rectification dialog.
- Added support for exporting an elevation
GeoTIFF file with 32-bit floating point
samples rather than 16-bit integer
samples. (Registered Version Only)
- Disabled display of warning messages
when loading (Geo)TIFF files if the
warnings don't have any negative
consequences.
- Corrected the Stereo70 projection for
Romania. It was off by about 1 degree in
latitude.
- Added support for loading ERMapper grid
files (.ers).
- Fixed printing to scale when using the
Geographic projection. (Registered
Version Only)
- Improved classification of city features
from NIMA GNS files.
- Added support for the Vertical Near-Side
Perspective projection.
- Added support for the Ain El Abd
(Bahrain), Ain El Abd (Saudi Arabia),
Carthage, Luzon (Philippines), and
Merchich (Morocco) datums.
- Added support for dash and dot line
styles have a width greater than 1 pixel.
- Added support for tracking NMEA GPS
devices that do not provide fix quality
information messages.
- Corrected handling of International Feet
and US Feet units when reading and writing
GeoTIFF files.
- Fixed problems viewing ECW files which
are oriented in a bottom-up rather than a
top-down manner.
- Fixed problem calculating the top right
corner of Surfer7 binary grid files which
caused the top right corner to be slightly
too far up and to the right.
- Corrected one half grid cell shift up
and to the right of imported SRTM HGT
files.
- Fixed error when exporting point
features to a vector file using the
EXPORT_VECTOR command in a Global Mapper
script file passed on the command line. (Registered
Version Only)
- Made HSV shader parameters be saved to
the registry.
- Made a default.prj file in the same
directory as a file with an unknown
projection
being loaded be used for the
projection of the file. This is useful to
specify the source projection/datum of all
of the files in a folder.
- Added support for using a color palette
in a .clr file for BIL/BIP/BSQ 8-bit
imagery. The .clr file just needs to have
the same base name as the image file to be
used (i.e. image.clr for image.bil).
- Greatly increased the speed of exporting
from ECW files to new imagery files. (Registered
Version Only)
- Made users be prompted to select the
projection for USGS DEM files that do not
contain complete projection information
rather than just failing to load the file.
- Fixed problems exporting to USGS DEM and
DLG formats with projections who have
projection parameters west of -10 degrees
longitude or east of +100 degrees
longitude.
Note this does not affect the
UTM, State Plane, or Geographic projection
typically
used with these file types. (Registered
Version Only)
- Fixed problem that prevented users from
printing to a printer after they had
printed
to a file. (Registered Version
Only)
- Made the color attribute for closed DXF
polygons be applied as a border color.
- Made area features with elevations be
considered when creating elevation grids
from loaded vector data from the Overlay
Control Center.
- Changed "Allow Overlapping
Labels" option on the General Options
tab of the Configuration dialog to
"Always Display All Labels" and
modified the behavior to reflect that
change.
Previously, duplicate labels near
each other on the screen could still be
hidden even if the option was checked.
- No longer export the optional Bounds
field to MIF files since that limits what
MapInfo
will display if other files are
loaded. (Registered Version Only)
